Go Islay,Bird watching on Islay (and a few other activities…)

We have just got back from the best week on Islay, where the weather was gorgeous, the locals hospitable and the whisky fine. Highlights of the week included kayaking in the shimmering waters of Claggan Bay, fishing for pollock off Ardbeg pier, bodyboarding on the Big Strand and running with the dogs on the beautiful beaches of Saligo and Machir. We were also delighted that the Bridgend Hotel let us take the dogs into Katie’s bar for lunch!

One of the younger members of the Goislay team was invited to ride out with the Velo Club D’Ardbeg on a sunny Sunday morning along the shore of Loch Indaal. He managed 18 miles while we sampled the coffee and cake at Debbie’s. He enjoyed it so much he was made welcome a few days later at the Port Mor Wheelers club.

I think we’d all agree however that the pinnacle of the holiday was the morning spent with Jez Hastings. We highly recommend joining Jez for an informative, entertaining and rewarding walk. We only booked for a couple of hours but took in a bit of Islay history, some stunning views, a bite to eat and an almost perfectly timed Golden Eagle spot, soaring high above the Islay Estate. A truly magical holiday.
